What’s the Price for Digital Subscriptions?
I’m thinking of setting up a digital subscription for World Audience Publishers. That’d be some interesting reading, I think.
Fewer People Watching TV for 2nd Year
And that’s good news for Web advertising.
Revenue is unchanged. And besides which, TV commentators have become awfully high-handed, and high on themselves lately. Even when watched, no one actually listens to a TV pundit—pa-leeese.
National Geographic—My Genetic History
Here it is, fairly predictable. I am a direct descendent of the Cro-Magnon line that first settled the European Continent on my father’s side, the controversial M269. (Well, isn’t that special?) Where it gets interesting is the series of Short Tandem Repeats (STRs). On that last leg of the journey in the map below, I am somewhere in France or Spain or Portugal. I was always told Strozier was German or French; but it’s definitely not matching German families that have posted similar DNA results online and even the French lines—while getting closer—do not match other STRs online. I’m looking at Spanish STRs. In fact, Basque Region is very possible. I’ll post my STRs once I solve this mystery.
M168 > P143 > M89 > L15 > M9 > M45 > M207 > M173 > M343 (Subclade R1b1a2, M269)
Cast Album for Honestly Abe the Musical by Robert L. Hecker
La Muse Venale Acting Troupe has been taking over Premier Studios lately, producing the cast album for “Honestly Abe”. It sounds incredible. And now we’re bringing back the cast album! The studio is located in the heart of New York’s theater district. It has an amazing history and it is still used by the big-time, pop celebrity singers. I’m very proud of this cast! They’re such professionals. You could tell they were the cast of an Off-Broadway musical in its 4th successful month, as opposed to, say, well…ah…
Bin Laden and the Presidential Race
Romney says “of course” he would of ordered the raid in response to Obama’s advert, and that “even Jimmy Carter” would have. This remark reveals a strange flippant expectation of being President, and little respect for the office or for himself. The man who says “Of course I’m a bad-ass” rarely is — though occasionally. In fact, of all 3 Carter is the only one who would have ordered the raid, “as a matter of course.” Carter was a Naval Submarine commander in the Cold War; I don’t doubt he would have said yes. My independent heart is conflicted.
Sin City Irish Carry the Day!
An incredible game, just what I had hoped for and what I expected! This suits me perfectly too for my rugby memoir, Second Row: American Rugby. It was just a bit discouraging that the team is so young and new; even if the old hands are still there. I’ve filled the pages of my book with crucial new tidbits too.
Ah, the old jersey.
I gave out my business card and talked about my book. Some of the wives were fascinated by what I’d been doing and wondered what had happened to me. But all were interested in my book, Second Row: American Rugby. The new players were concerned that I was writing about them, wanting to make sure I spelled their names correctly, and I have done that. No matter what, this book is par excellante and, like my team, will become noble in time. We all grow old, that was the lesson of the day.
Big New York Publishers Drop Amazon.com
Things are getting interesting in the publishing industry. The giants are no longer just stirring, they have sat up and they are moving. 2 major publishers have canceled agreements with Amazon.com. By the way, this linked article is poorly written but it does not matter, I just need the basic facts from it (there are few). You can always tell a bad writer in about 3 sentences. Well, that’s what a publisher has to be able to do. I have to get further guidance from my Chief Editor, Kyle Torke, Phd, about 25% of the time; but basically I can spot the losers instantaneously—I can spot the winners too. Even among the good writers, I only sign those who are serious workers. But I digress.
There are 6 major publishers in New York, and therefore they are the largest in America and the world, by far, they dominate the industry and always have. They control a 50 billion industry. They were all sued by the Feds, along with Apple, because they colluded with Apple when the iPad came out, and Apple set up a Communist pricing scheme. I spotted that too, and blogged about it at the time. I’ve not rushed to put my titles into iPad as a result, and that was the right move. The big publishers despise Kindle because it and Amazon have destroyed the cozy publishing industry that the big publishers had dominated for centuries. (World Audience, Inc. loves Amazon.com.) The fight is still raging, however—it’s just getting started. The bottom line is Amazon is the future and the old-school publishers and their business model are the past. Thus, by trying (and even illegally colluding) to harm Amazon, the big dogs are going to harm their own cause, just as newspapers have pretty much destroyed their own future over the last 5-10 years. All of this presents a very bright future for small, independent 21st century presses like World Audience, Inc. While collapsing newspapers open the door a little bit—because more advertising dollars go online and a host of other small advantages lead to forward-leaning presses like mine—these actions of the big book publishers, taken with the collapsing bookstore chains and the harsh economy, are directly adding market share to presses like mine at the expense of the big ones.

Death of a Journalist
Here is an interesting article about Dan Rather. That fifteen minutes of fame can cut both ways.
